Bodegas Riojanas

Rioja, Spain

Bodegas Riojanas stands as one of the 13 time-honored wineries in Rioja, contributing to the establishment of the Denomination of Origin. The Artacho family, with a rich lineage in winemaking, established Bodegas Riojanas back in 1890. Remarkably, the winery’s entrance proudly displays the 1799 stone door that once served as the portal to the family’s vineyards.

In June 2005, a significant renovation effort breathed new life into the old winery. Here, tradition seamlessly melds with cutting-edge winemaking techniques and state-of-the-art machinery and technology.

Spanning nearly 100 hectares, Bodegas Riojanas meticulously tends vineyards located in prime spots, including San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Cenicero, and other neighboring towns. The soil, characterized by its clayey composition infused with limestone, coupled with a distinctive microclimate, creates an ideal environment for cultivating vines. The estate primarily nurtures the Tempranillo, Mazuelo, and Graciano grape varietals, which serve as the foundation for their esteemed red, white, and dessert wines.

The harvest process involves handpicking the finest grapes, carefully transporting them to the winery in small crates. Subsequent fermentation unfolds in the cellar, followed by aging the wines in oak barrels until they achieve the desired flavor profile and structure. The winery’s offerings are categorized into three tiers: Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva, each showcasing the culmination of their winemaking expertise.
