Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer

Burgundy, France

Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer can be found nestled in the picturesque region of Magny-lès-Villers, situated snugly between the charming towns of Beaune and Nuits-Saint-Georges in the enchanting Hautes Côtes of Burgundy. What sets this domaine apart is its truly unique location, positioned precisely at the juncture where the Hautes Côtes de Beaune and the Hautes Côtes de Nuits converge.

Today, this esteemed domaine spans across 10 hectares of land, predominantly dedicated to the production of red wines, with a notable focus on the renowned Côte de Nuits appellations, including the prestigious Echezeaux Grand Cru “Echezeaux Du Dessus,” the distinguished Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Damodes,” the charming Nuits-Saint-Georges Village “Les Hauts Poirets,” and the esteemed Côte de Nuits-Villages. Additionally, the domaine has earned a well-deserved reputation for crafting both red and white Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits.

Founded back in the 1950s, Domaine Jayer-Gilles has its origins in a union between two venerable winemaking families – one hailing from Vosne-Romanée and the other deeply rooted in Magny-lès-Villers. The domaine is nestled within the historical Gilles family residence, which boasts a rich heritage dating all the way back to 1886.

Within this domaine, a steadfast commitment to the vineyard and a profound reverence for the land take precedence. Here, the concept of terroir is revered, emphasizing the intricate interplay between soil, vines, and the surrounding environment. Picture parcels of land, adjacent to one another, each planted in distinct orientations and occasionally separated by walls or hedgerows, exposed differently to sunlight and influenced by varying prevailing winds. The textures and structures of the soil can transform within just a few short steps. These multifaceted factors collaborate to impart distinct identities to each vine.

While in the past, vineyard management may have been the primary focus, today the intention is to forge a closer bond with the vines, nurture the soil, and exhibit a heightened respect for the environment. The goal is to infuse vitality and vitality back into the earth, to bestow upon the vines their natural vigor and the ability to sustain themselves, fostering a harmonious relationship with the land.
