Podere Le Ripi

Tuscany, Italy

Established in 1997, this estate, located in the enchanting Montalcino region of Tuscany, is under the passionate stewardship of Francesco Illy. Mr. Illy is a captivating individual deeply dedicated to the principles of purity, quality, and the preservation of nature. Podere le Ripi, a centuries-old property, remains unspoiled by human intervention, comprising a sprawling 133-acre estate adorned with numerous olive trees, enveloped by lush forests and untamed vegetation.

Notably, Francesco Illy is not only a vintner but also a nature photographer and author. His lineage traces back to his grandfather, another Francesco, the ingenious inventor of Espresso, who established the renowned Illy coffee brand in 1933. With a family immersed in the realm of fine coffee, tea, and chocolate, it becomes evident why Francesco Illy was drawn to craft a new family specialty, this time cultivated under the warm Tuscan sun.

As wine critic Eric Guido aptly noted in November 2020, ‘There is an undeniable pleasure to be discovered within a bottle of Podere Le Ripi Brunello. Francesco Illy unmistakably exhibits his mastery in this endeavor.’

Blessed with vineyards on both the eastern and western slopes of Montalcino, Podere Le Ripi specializes in crafting terroir-driven Brunello di Montalcino wines sourced from three distinct single vineyards. Since 2012, the estate has embraced biodynamic practices, a transformational project championed by their skilled winemaker, Sebastian Nasello.
